"Dear Randy,
Katie had a really good week last week, and I wanted both of you to know.
At her grade 8 graduation Katie was awarded the Science award and a school letter, but most significantly she was selected by her graduating class as the recipient of the Friendship Award and she was selected by the staff as Valedictorian.
So, other than my own pride, why am I mentioning this to you?
In listening to the speeches made by presenters leading to Katie's announcements (and realize that other than Valedictorian which we knew about, the others were unknown to everyone until the presenter said her name), they talked about the values Katie had, and I thought to myself that those were the same things that are built into everything you teach the students on their journey to becoming black belts. Words like respect, discipline, dedication, effort, focus, compassion, caring and friendship were all used, in some cases more than once.
As a believer that it takes a village to raise a child, I'd like to offer you my thanks for the part you've played in making both my daughters better people. Part of Katie's awards go to you too." - Rick Blaiklock
